My mother-in-law works away for weeks at a time and comes home for a few days before heading off again, so we try and jam as much as possible into a short space of time so that she gets to experience some quality time with J. You could say we effectively condense 3 weeks worth of visits into a weekend which can be pretty intense at times
This weekend was a little bit different though, she came home to celebrate her birthday. This time last year we were in Center Parcs though work and family commitments haven’t allowed for that this year
She had a rough few weeks this time around, so I purchased a bottle of wine, choccys and some yellow tulips (selected by J) and was in the process of putting them in her house when the front door opened. I was foiled!
She came in looking all quizzical because the front door was unlocked, then realised we were there. The look on her face was priceless and she really enjoyed seeing J for the first time in 3 weeks, especially as we had taught her to say “Happy Birthday Nanny Iris”
The weather was not looking like it would be on our side for a day to Peppa Pig World, so we arranged a first for my mother-in-law to experience with us, we went to the cinema to see Peppa Pig before it leaves our screens. I was very apprehensive as J is incredibly reluctant to sit still for long periods of time, but she loved it and stayed still for pretty much the whole viewing
Nanny Iris seemed to enjoy it too (at points I did wonder who enjoyed it more!)
It wasn’t your most conventional birthday present, but it was a lovely memory, and sometimes memories are better than presents
This was followed by a homemade ploughman’s lunch Cooks Cabin style, minus the bread for me, it was even fresh tiger bread which is my favourite…I’m staying strong, I have managed 12 days bread free so far!
We then played in the garden before the rain came, it was actually so warm I felt the hint of spring arriving
A very happy birthday to my mother-in-law “Nanny Iris”
