My day began at 6am this morning, strangely not because of J waking up though – she slept in until 6:30, but because I was excited about the day ahead. Today was daddy daughter day, I don’t get many like this so I was eager with anticipation to get started!
As a full time working parent, you are at a bit of a disadvantage, you get the same two days off each week as everyone else – wherever you go is heaving with people, there are queues for everything, and the staff are stretched to the max – so getting the best experience is often not possible
Today was different, its term time and a weekday – you don’t get much better than that combination!
I started my day with J when she woke up, by putting Despicable Me on the TV, and watching it with her – no phone, no tablet, just me and my girl. I did her breakfast, Rice Krispies as usual, and started packing for our day ahead – its amazing just how much stuff goes in the bag!
Wifey stayed in bed (she’s not very well), so I got J washed, dressed and raring to go before heading out the door at 8:30am. We drove to a trampoline place in Camberley called Gravity Force, where we were booked for a 10:30am start. They do a ‘Toddler Takeover’ morning a couple of times each week and this was J’s first time. J loves trampolines, so I was eager to see how she handled a place full of them – even on the walls!
Once we had signed in, and listened to the safety talk, we headed to the first zone. I watched J’s face light up, and her nose crinkle with excitement as she stared out across the empty area – in that instant I knew I had made the right call taking her
J bounced and bounced, and I watched pleased as punch; maybe just a little bit proud, as she developed her skills. All the time I encouraged her, played with her, and watched as she got more and more daring!
We moved on through the zones – there were basketball hoops where she got her first slam dunk (with my assistance), play areas with parachutes and balls, and huge trampolines where she was able to bounce from one end of the hall to the other. My favourite time with her however was when I introduced her to the foam pit. If you’re local to the area I would definitely recommend going! Great fun and exercise
Lots of trampolines, all lined up next to a pit full of foam for her to jump into – it was amazing. Initially she was somewhat apprehensive, but once I threw her in like Superman and she realised it didn’t hurt there was no stopping her! As she leapt from the trampoline to the pit, there were shrieks of excitement that couldn’t help but light up my face. Eventually I succumbed to her request and dived on in – where we took an obligatory selfie!
Once we finished our session, we sat for lunch – I took a packed lunch which was great as it didn’t involve stopping for lunch, finding somewhere to eat, and paying out more cash! Whilst eating, J saw a couple of other children eating crisps, I suggested she go sit with them, and she did. I was a very proud dad at this moment – she got up, walked over and sat down, then started playing with them. J is only 2 and a half, so this was great to see 🙂
After lunch we headed to the Spectrum Leisure Centre in Guildford for some time in the pool. I used to love going ice skating there, but had never used the pool – however I can now report it was amazing! In total there were six slides that J could go on, and in addition to this there were splash pools, a wave machine, and lots of things that dropped water down onto us. We were there for just over two hours – and all for £5
It was quiet because it was a weekday, so there were no queues for the slides, and getting changed was easy. There was also a photographer in the pool who took a few shots – and yes I made a purchase
My favourite moment in the pool, was watching J go on one particular slide over and over again. It was great because when she first tried to go on it she chickened out. In the past I have tried to force her onto the rides which doesn’t usually end well. This time I took a different approach, I built her up slowly by putting her on it for the last 2 meters, then gradually increasing it until she was confident. Once she did it once from the top, I couldn’t get her off!
We finished up in the pool, and after getting changed headed back to the car. J slept on the way back, and when we got home the ice cream man was waiting at the end of our road – it was meant to be! We finished our adventure right where we started – on the sofa, finishing Despicable Me (but with an ice cream in hand)
I cherish the one on one time I get with J, and today was no exception. Thank you J for an amazing day x
