Strawberry Fields

I love this time of year, fruit and vegetables are growing and you get the opportunity to pick or experience freshly picked fruit and veg. Strawberry picking always reminds me of summer and being a little girl, going out with my family and coming back with a container of strawberries, most of which were not particularly ripe but thats half the fun when you’re a kid isn’t it

A short drive away takes us to a “pick your own” farm and as it’s June the strawberries are in season, yum! Rows and rows of delicious strawberries open for the taking. We decided to take J this weekend for the second year running to see how she would get on and after a slow start to the morning we arrived at 11am eager to fill our containers. Much to our surprise there were loads of families doing the same!

Initially J picked the fruit with me however when I came across one that was going to be thrown away as it was damaged I suggested she had it to save it being wasted. Her face was an absolute picture and that was the start of her strawberry fields adventure!

I continued to pick strawberries for the container we were going to take home and J had her own mini one with a couple of strawberries in there which soon disappeared, as soon as I had put a couple more in they were gone again. Now I know this isn’t the way to do it, though I’m sure most have snuck a strawberry or two as they were picking?

We finished after 45 minutes or so and went to pay, £5.50 for 2 large punnets, not bad at all for some family time out and a healthy adventure! I would love to say I’m going to make loads of recipes, but I’ll probably make a strawberry tart and then eat the rest as they are, in fact J and I snuggled up with a bowl of them tonight after dinner
There’s not much nicer than freshly picked plump strawberries is there?

On the way to the till I spotted a couple of rows of peas which will be ready towards the end of the month, now these I am really quite excited about! I think we’ll be back for another adventure soon

I love strawberry picking – one of my favourite things to do this time of year. And also, just so hard not to stuff as many of them while going around. Love the photo of J and the strawberries around her mouth! #Countrykids

I love taking the kids out for a day at the local “pick your own” farm, they always end up having eaten half as many as they’ve collected. J looks like she’s having a fabulous time exploring fields searching for the perfect strawberries to add to her collection. Thanks for linking up with me on Country Kids.

What a great day out and lovely pictures too! I should consider taking my little one out. She’s only 16 months, but loves to pick daisies, so I might be able to convince her to pick strawberries too (ha!). I love fresh strawberries.
