Cabin Fever {Ordinary Moments Week 28 – 12/07/15}

Most people who know me know that I suffer with ‘cabin fever’. Give me long periods of time spent indoors and it feels me with dread, so when sickness hit the house this week I knew it would be a long ride. Fast forward improved health and stomachs and I was climbing the walls by the time the latter part of the weekend arrived

Sunday hit and I had decided that no matter what the weather we WERE going out. Looking at my timehop photo I was reminded that this date last year I was at the New Forest in one of our favourite spots, Shatterford. That was it, I decided promptly at 615am that we were going there to stretch our legs and walk the dog

The hubster wasn’t particularly impressed with me when I told him our plan, but like always, he goes along with it as he knows sometimes I just have to get out. He was even more grumpy when I refused indoor soft play in place of the walk, especially when it started raining on our way there

Grumpy, Grumpy, Grumpy, haha

I forced him to smile on this one, and yes, I'm wearing a white coat to walk the dog in the forest, I'm nuts

Undeterred I suggested we just walk to the forest bit and play in the trees, and thankfully everyone had their waterproof coats with them as it really started to rain (god knows what would have happened had there been no coats!).ย Shatterford holds many special memories for us and every time we drive down Beaulieu road and I see the tree line it brings a smile to my face and a sense of nostalgia

We first took Lexi there when she was a puppy, and when we initially went for the first walk the hubster refused to walk more than half a mile.ย Throughout the following months we realised it was a nice circular route of approx. 3 miles and as we became more comfortable at walking we could whip round with Lexi at an amazing pace after work and then stop off at the pub for a drink afterwards – always good!

Fast forward 6 years and we aren’t as quick as we used to be, but we’ve done the ciruclar route a couple of times with J and I still enjoy the woodland adventures we have when we are there. J’s imagination is really stepping up a notch and in the morning she drove me to Peppa Pig World and took me on all the rides, all from the comfort of the sofa so it was only fitting that we encouraged the imagination whilst out on our walk. It’s not something that comes naturally for us but we’re really trying hard

J loves throwing the ball for Lexi on every walk. She's pretty lethal when she does it but its adorable as she insists on helping

Another fun time climbing trees. Although she loves her Anna from Frozen doll and babies, she's a bit of a tomboy at heart as well

Touching and making a wish at ‘the wishing tree’. I usually have a struggle to brush and do her hair but this morning she wanted it to look like Anna from Frozen and sat there happily. It’s not amazing, but I’ve got a few years before she starts school!
She really is a daddy's girl and I don't get a look in when he's around. She wants him to pick her up for a cuddle, him to push her on the bike if she needs it and his hand to hold. Its very sweet, although a little tiring for the hubster, but I can see she adores him and although I occasionally wish I could have those cuddles, it makes me melt to see that bond

This used to be a Lexi special, getting the biggest stick (branch) she could find and walking back with it. We had to stop her because of J but after a very quick picture

Is it just my labrador or does every one insist on getting as dirty and wet as possible on EVERY walk they go on? She was promptly hosed down in the garden by me when we got home

It was an exact replica of this photo which made me want to go again this year. Mr Hubster expect the same this time next year! hehe!

On the way back to the car the weather started to clear up and I grinned to the hubster who had cheered up a bit, but still reminded me I’m a bloody nightmare for trekking him into the New Forest on a rainy Sunday because of my hatred of staying indoors… I loved it!

And for the first time… Whatever the Weather – this seems quite apt because of the rain!

  1. My hubby is like this too but once we get out and start playing he loves it and joins in. Love that you made me smile for a selfie something I would have done too. Glad you enjoyed the fresh air. Looks great even if it was raining. Lovely #ordinarymoments

  2. I can sympathise on the cabin fever issue – i feel like that. They children love a good tree climb and there is nothing like a wet/cold walk to blow the cobwebs away #OrdinaryMoments

  3. Well done you, it sounds like your sunday trek into the forest raised everyones spirits, though I know sometimes you wonder why you bother when there are objections at first. Looks well worth the effort and the rain only looks light from the photos I bet it was a relief to be out after a week of a poorly household. than you for sharing with me on Country Kids and I hope the weather cheers up for us all this week!

    1. The hubsters pretty used to me now although he will continue to grumble (I’m sure it’s just for the sake of it), we’re doing the Cancer Research Pretty Muddy this weekend so I’d be very grateful for a nice clear day for Saturday x

  4. Beautiful photos and it looks just like a lovely place for a walk- we have no real forests around here and the ground is so flat, it’s a bit dull to walk in although we do it regularly. I hate cabin fever too, I am the worst for it. Love the grumpy photo of your hubby too- so funny! x

  5. Aww this is so apt for #whatevertheweather . Thank you so much for linking up!! I am so similar to you. I have to get out of the house. We have to do something outside every single day or else I can’t handle it. But even wet and rainy walks are fun and refreshing when you’ve been stuck indoors. Poor hubster! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love the stick Lexi picked up haha. That must be quite funny watching her try and carry it. I love places like this when you can let your imagination run wild. The wishing tree is so cool! You should definitely come back every year and take a picture of J in the same spot to see how much she has grown. x

  6. I love that you made your husband get out in the rain, I often make mine go out too, I hate being stuck indoors as the boys end out bouncing off the walls and everyone gets on each others nerves. Normally my OH cheers up once we’re out, even if he would rather be sat on the sofa anyway. So cute the bond between your daughter and her daddy, it’s lovely to see dad’s getting a look in too. ๐Ÿ™‚
Our labs used to be like that too, they love getting so dirty in muddy puddles and love how she finds the biggest stick in the woods!
Gorgeous photos, thanks for linking up to #Whatevertheweather ๐Ÿ™‚ xx
