My Mum {Ordinary Moments Week 34 – 23/08/15}

It was my mums birthday on Monday so we made an unscheduled visit to pop round and say hello to her. She looks after J every Thursday so I see her every week without doubt as a result. The weeks tend to go by so quickly and we don’t physically see each other much aside from Thursdays, but we speak pretty much every day via text, phone or social media

I know I am very lucky to have my mum around, a lot of people are not as fortunate, and growing up I was always closer to her than my dad (thats not to say I wasn’t close to my dad, just my sister was closer to him and me to mum).Β As I’ve got older and become a mum myself I’ve found myself appreciating her more than I did before and we have a bond I hope J and I will have throughout the years through to adulthood

I know that wherever I am and whatever I am doing my mum will always be there for me, and will drop things in an instant if I need her

I remember needing to move home after a failed relationship just before I turned 22, and my parents didn’t even bat an eyelid. Instead they paid for me to go on holiday with a friend and moved all of my belongings out of my flat and into their house, my home, so that I didn’t have to deal with all the emotions of a bad break up and moving home. Every day following she would phone me at work and ask if I wanted dinner to make sure I was eating well

Even though I am ‘a grown up’ and have a family of my own, I still call my parents place ‘home’ and each time I go round there I always, without a doubt, open the cupboards and see what’s inside for me to sample, most of the time not taking anything. Every time I do it I always apologise, and every time my mum says “it’s still your home”

In celebration of my mums birthday J and the hubster made some cookies and rock cakes for her and we made some flowers too. I always say I’m “crap at crafts” especially in comparison to my mum, her crafts are amazing! But actually they came out really well and made a nice difference to standard flowers (flowers in any form are great aren’t they?)

I decided on the Monday to try and find a photo of me and my mum together to post on social media but I could only find a handful and the most recent one being a 3 years old! So here are some photos of me and my mum (and J, and anyone else!) in celebration of her birthday

These were all pulled from my Facebook account so aren’t the biggest or best of pictures but I had a hard drive fail a while ago and lost most of my pictures (backing up regularly now!)

My first Christmas away from home (at the tender age of 23!) and mum and dad surprised me!

You see there’s very few of us together, with the newest photo being some years ago of me and my mum! My aim this year is to get more photos of me and my mum, and even J together, which is hard because I’m usually the one behind the camera!

Happy birthday mum, you’re fab! x

  1. Happy birthday to your mum! Your parents sound like amazing people. What a fab present, so much more special than buying flowers (which is lovely too!). I love that you had a Hallowe’en themed evening for your wedding! #OrdinaryMoments
