An Update on 2017’s Resolutions

Back in January I (along with many others) set some New Year’s Resolutions. We’re well into the last quarter of 2017 and I thought it’s be a good time to look back, see if there were any achievements and if there’s any extra work I need to do to succeed

I started the year by saying the following:

To look forward, I see the three words that will underpin and define 2017 for me:

-FAMILY – HEALTH – ADVENTURES –

If I’m to be honest, I think so far I’ve done pretty well. Things are never going to be perfect, but here is my update for the first 3 quarters of 2017

Family:

We spent a fun filled 2 weeks in Florida as a family unit with my mum, dad, sister and best friend. It was lovely to be able to spend quality time with them all, although outside of our holiday we haven’t had masses of time together making memories and adventures. Mum reads my blog and although she has joined us for a couple of dinners out in recent weeks I am hopeful before the end of 2017 we’ll have some more family outings added to this list (nudge, nudge mum…)

My cousin and I see each other every day and I count her as one of my best friends, and we’ve kept our unofficial quarterly tradition of spending a morning or afternoon walking in the forest with our girls. With J not having any siblings, I know it’s important for her to spend some quality time with her cousin whenever possible

We’ve also had the perfect balance of time as a family unit, with a holiday in March, a couple of weekends away, and lots of home based adventures on Sundays before J heads to school. I feel that so far this year we’ve got the family time balance just right, but want to make more of an effort with my mum and dad to get them out and about for walks and memories

Health: Well, what can I say other than in May I embarked on a food plan to rid me of the problems that have plagued me for a few years. It was a very hard 8 weeks but I felt so good for it. I remain caffeine free, spice free and mostly dairy and tomato free which is hard at times but worth it. In addition, spaghetti bolognese doesn’t taste that bad made with tinned carrots instead of tomatoes, although I do miss Mexican food and nachos and cheese

I’ve learned to listen to my body, to know when I need to rest and to understand that while I used to be able to power through illness trying to now is just plain difficult and silly as I end up worse off and needing much longer to recover

I also started at the beginning of the year by saying I’d walk 1,000 miles before the end of 2017, having achieved over 500 on foot in 2016. So far I’m at 600 miles, leaving me with 400 to walk between now and December 31st. I’ll be honest and say walking 5 miles a day isn’t achievable, but I can definitely and comfortably walk 150, so lets push it and say I’ll walk between 200-250 before the year is out (roughly 2.5-3.5 miles a day). It’ll help with the health side of things too

 

Adventure:

I think of all the words for this year so far, adventure sums it up perfectly. We’ve been somewhere new every month, we’ve made amazing memories, and I write this as we’re about to embark on a half term adventure for our little family. I think I’ll be dedicating a whole post to our adventures for 2017, as there’s just too many to mention right now but here’s some of my favourite pictures of our adventures so far in 2017

 

As far as resolutions go, 2017 has been a good year for achieving them. I must start thinking about the next set!
