The Christmas Tag

Posted by

I love Christmas – there’s no doubt about it – but this year I’ve struggled with embracing my usual level of excitement, so when Donna asked if anyone would like to be included in a Christmas tag I jumped at the opportunity to feel festive. Donna’s blog is one of my favourites and she runs several link ups I adore, so do pop over and see her post. Here’s my answers to the Christmas tag questions…

What’s Your Favourite Christmas Movie?

I adore Love Actually. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I love the overwhelming theme behind it, and I love the characters. I wish I could be Colin Firth’s housekeeper in it – I have a bit of a crush on him in the film!

Have You Ever Had A White Christmas?

We used to live near Newcastle and we used to have snow quite frequently. I can’t remember as I was so young, but I asked mum and she said we had snow over many Christmas breaks. Quite the opposite to where we live now in the South, where we barely get any snow and missed out this weekend

Where Do You Usually Spend Your Holiday?

Christmas Day is often spent at home, with Boxing Day at my mums. This year we’re mixing it up and going to Cheshire to spend it with our best friend, with the usual ‘Boxing Day’ celebrations at mums on the 28th

What Is Your Favourite Christmas Song?

I have 2 – The Pogues and Kirsty McColl – Fairytale of New York, and Micheal Buble, -Christmas (Baby Please Come Home). When J was born I had the Buble album on my old iPod and played it every time I fed her and left her to sleep. I won’t ever change the songs on the iPod because of it, and every time I hear the song it makes me think of those newborn days

Do You Open Any Presents On Christmas Eve?

No, Santa leaves a little present box with pyjamas, a book and a couple of treats, but that’s it

Can You Name All Of Santa’s Reindeer?

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Comet, Cupid, Donna, Blitzen, Rudolph – that’s 8, how many are there? (I just checked, and there’s 8 – hurrah! I thought there were 12 for some reason, and although Donna is spelt Donner I’m pretty pleased with that!)

What Holiday Traditions Are You Looking Forward To This Year?

Seeing J’s face on Christmas morning after Santa has visited and left footprints over the floor, visiting the garden centre to wish his reindeer well on their journey, and eating my mums quiche with a baileys coffee on Christmas Eve morning – it’s the only way to start the day

Is Your Christmas Tree Real or Fake?

It’s fake, although next year I’d love to be able to go to the Christmas Tree Farm and choose a real one, December just crept up on us this year and we ran out of time

What Is Your Favourite Holiday Treat/Food/Sweet?

Anything gingerbread goes in my house and I’m the only one that likes it which is even better!

Be Honest, Do You Like Giving Or Receiving Gifts Better?

Since being a mum I don’t really like to receive gifts as I’d prefer money to be spent on my family, and I find Christmas quite overwhelming having to buy for so many people. I’m always very grateful to receive a  present, however I prefer to see Christmas through my daughter’s eyes and would choose giving to her over receiving every time

What Is The Best Christmas Present You Ever Received?

It sounds so cheesy but the arrival of J was perfect. She was originally due on the 22nd December, then that was moved, and she arrived 3 weeks early, as if she knew I didn’t want to be pregnant over Christmas. With her early arrival it gave us the best month – I wasn’t heavily pregnant and miserable, and it gave us a few weeks to prepare for the festivities too (and eat all the yummy Christmas food!)

What Is Your Dream Place To Visit For The Holiday Season?

Without a doubt I would love to visit Disney. I’ve seen so many photos showing how amazing it is at Christmas, and to be honest I’d go tomorrow if I could! I also saw the Rockefeller Christmas tree as it was being installed and before it was lit up last time I went to New York, and I would love to see that in all it’s glory. It looked so magical before lights and decorations so I can only imagine how amazing it looks completed

Are You A Pro Present Wrapper Or Do You Fail Miserably?

I start off with the best intentions, but as I get near the end it looks like a child has wrapped it as I loose enthusiasm

Most Memorable Christmas Memory?

Wandering the streets of Southampton when I was in my late teens with my best friend and several work friends at the end of a night out singing the Fairytale of New York at the top of our voices. So carefree and young, and I loved that night – we had the best time

What Made You Realise The Truth About Santa?

This is a sad one – I was in year 5 at school, my parents had decided it would be my last year to believe and keep the magic alive, and while I was at school for the last day before Christmas my teacher did a class ‘fun’ session. One of the questions the teacher asked was “Who believes Father Christmas is real?” – I was the only one who put my hand up and I cried all the way home

What Makes The Holidays Special For You?

Being with my family and not working over the entire break. I switch off, everything takes a back seat and my family and I recharge and rest, and have lots of walks – I can’t wait!

If these lovely bloggers wish to take part, I’m tagging:
