For the second year running I’m heading up to Manchester for BlogOn Toys. Last year I went and was incredibly nervous, and this year the nerves are kicking in once more! To most I seem pretty outgoing and confident but put me in a room full of people I don’t know and the nerves definitely kick in. Everyone I met last year were lovely, and so welcoming that I knew I’d be gutted if I missed this year’s one.
For those new here (or needing a reminder!) I’m Sherry, I’m from the South of England, I’m short, and I
like adore taking photos. I’m a full time employee by day, and a mother, wife, dog lover and photographer by night. I prefer to be the other side of the camera – but here’s a pretty rare shot of me – I’m rarely on my own in photos, always with the family!
1. What is the best thing about blogging?
Being able to record memories and photos I perhaps wouldn’t have done. It is also one of the ways I lifted my mind of those awful post natal grey skies. Meeting new people either through social media or in ‘real life’ has also been a huge bonus – the first few years of motherhood were lonely – I’m not afraid of saying that
2. What was your dream job when you were growing up?
I always wanted to be a teacher. I wanted to be able to have a positive impact on the world growing up – that all changed when I went to Secondary School – the kids just weren’t that nice! I changed my mind then and wanted to be a photographer or lawyer. I’d say I do elements of them now – I work with law in the day job, and I publish and print photos
3. What is your lucky number?
It’s the number 2. I have no idea why, it’s always been my favourite / lucky number
4. What is your favourite season?
There is no question – it’s Autumn. Woolly hats, stunning skies, autumn treasures, fallen leaves, hot chocolates and all the colours! I am so excited that we’re nearly into it
5. If you had to choose one what would your favourite dish from the Chinese be?
Beef in black bean sauce or any form of duck. I don’t get take out Chinese or duck (hubs hates both) so when I do, it’s a real treat!
6. What is your useless talent?
Being able to watch TV, listen to an audiobook and either read or play a game – all at the same time (and keep track of it all). It drives the hubster loopy!
7. If you could keep any animal as a pet what would you choose?
A giraffe – my favourite animal by far! I figure I’m small, so it’d be hilarious to have something tall!
8. Which one meal would you eat forever? (If you had to choose one!)
Without a doubt it would have to be Ice Cream or Mexican! Sadly I can’t eat much spice or tomato based products so this has really dropped to the bottom of the list but they’re a favourite
9. What is the last thing you check before you lock your front door?
Either check the iron’s off (if no one’s left in the house) or yell “iron’s off!” to the hubster. I’m so paranoid that I’ll burn the house down!
10. If you won £50,000 what would be the first thing you would buy?
A new camera and a deposit on a house. We’re saving at the moment for a new house and it’d be a way to achieve our dream. The camera? Well that’s a special something for me – I’d love to upgrade
11. What is your favourite social media channel?
Instagram – pictures are my favourite and I get drawn into the stories that accompany them
12. Tell us more about your best ever holiday
My all time favourite holidays are Disney World Florida – I get immersed in the magic and love every minute of it and have never had a negative time in a Disney park
But I also have to say I have 2 other favourite trips – weekends before a working week abroad. One trip when I drove from Toronto to Rochester, New York and explored Niagara Falls and Lake Canandaigua of the Finger Lakes, and the times I stayed in Manhattan, New York and played tourist on my own. I was so proud of myself and have some of the best travelling memories just me, my feet or a car, and a camera
13. Name one cake you rock at baking
I suck at baking cakes but I make a mean apple crumble!
14. Which session are you most looking forward to?
Hobbycraft Christmas Crafts – I always spend a fortune in there at Christmas! And the Brilliant Blogmin session by Emily Leary. Since moving to a new job I’ve struggled with the balance, and I think several of the elements of this will be helpful
15. What is your favourite book ever?
It has to be A Trip To Granny Rumbletummy’s (Rainbow’s End) by Jane Patience. I’ll be very surprised if anyone knows that – it was my favourite childhood book and I remember asking my mum and dad to read it over and over
16. Which special event is your favourite?
I don’t have a favourite, I love them all. I get so excited for Christmas it’s ridiculous. I’ve already started planning our Christmas activities! I love doing Easter activities but I also adore Halloween – I love being able to act like a child all over again and immerse myself in the magic that our children still experience
17. If the internet vanished right now how would you share your message or life story without a blog?
I would do it through photographs and scrapbooking. A picture tells a thousand words, and memorabilia from a day out such as a ticket would transport me back to that day and moment
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading a few random facts about me! If you see me at BlogOn Toys do pop over and say hi – I’ll happily talk to anyone. Thanks to Katy for setting up these questions!
