Me and Mine {May 2017}

Although we didn’t do a lot in May compared to April we had lots of adventures close to home, we travelled on foot a lot and it was beautiful weather for most of it. We started it off in Cheshire with our good friend RH and she ended it with us in Hamphire. I also went away with the girls to Center Parcs and started a new food plan to hopefully rid me of the problems that have plagued me for so long

Me and Mine {March 2017}

We are a quarter of the way through 2017, resolutions are progressing and we are currently on holiday in Devon, our first family holiday just the 4 of us since J came along. It’s funny, the hubster and I have only had 1 other holiday in the 9 years we’ve been together which didn’t involve other people and that was also in Devon. It’s so nice being able to relax and be a unit revisiting places from pre J, and the age that J is right now has been perfect for this holiday

Me and Mine {February 2017}

Month two and the shortest of the year has been and gone in a flash. We have been outdoors more, enjoying the frost at the beginning of the month and the feeling of spring approaching as the weather has got warmer towards the end of the month

February has been both quiet and busy in equal measure but it’s been so nice to get out and about again, I really have missed exploring this beautiful country and everything it has to offer us

Me and Mine {January 2017}

Last year I joined in with Me and Mine with a plan to have me in front of the camera and for us to have family portraits. I am so glad I joined this as even in the months when I couldn’t put the words together we still took a photo every month and I really enjoyed looking back on the year. We also have photos for the walls at home – something I’ve wanted to do since moving in 4.5 years ago

Me and Mine {May 2016}

Health wise, May was a bad month for me. Family wise, it was a great month. We pulled together, I was looked after by my little crew and everyone seemed to rally round. It was one of those months where you feel very thankful to have such a good circle of friends and family

We spent many occasions curled up on the sofa or in the garden, something we really haven’t done since moving into our house 4 years ago and it was simply because the hubster and J wanted to be near me, and also because I really couldn’t do much else. There were quite a few days where I was just left at home to rest and I did miss the family, but knew that it was more important to recover while they had lots of adventures

A couple of weeks ago I was reading a couple of blogs with beautiful photos in ‘yellow fields’ and I decided I wanted to create my own photos in this beautiful setting. I set about trying to locate the nearest ones to us and it turns out there aren’t any, so the hubster agreed that as soon as I was feeling back on form we could go to the nearest ones I could find which involved a bit of a drive!

On Bank Holiday Monday, right at the last minute, we made a trip over to the South Downs to capture our photos for this month’s family portrait project. J’s favourite colour is yellow and we told her we were taking her somewhere special for a treat. Her face was a picture when we showed her the yellow fields and she erupted into the biggest smile. Even if we didn’t get our pictures, that smile was worth the long trip itself. I love that J is at an age when simple things like a field in her favourite colour makes her happy

We had our good friend RH with us on the day as we had plans for a walk and picnic in the local town afterwards. She may not be a blood relative but she’s like family to us and has been there since J entered our household so we asked her to join us for a photo. She moves up north in a few months and our lives will have a big void in it without her being there on a day to day basis, so we are trying to capture as much time with her as possible before she heads off

At this point in the photos Lexi was getting heavy in the hubsters arms and J had been sat on my shoulders for a good few minutes making me feel as though I was sinking into the ground, but we still had a good laugh and I love how close and happy we all look

No outtake for this month but I simply had to include this photo of my girls to finish. You can see in this picture just how much J loves Lexi, they really are the best of friends at the moment. As we put J to bed at the end of the day we asked her what her favourite part of the day was and she said going for a dog walk with us all. Perfect words for a perfect outing.

The Me and Mine Project

Me and Mine {March 2016}

We have had quite a few adventures in March, a trip to Center Parcs and a visit to see our lovely friends in York. Each has had a family photo with us in it, but mid month I made the decision to head to West Wittering for the first time this year with a view to take some photos for this month’s project

I love West Wittering, it’s one of my favourite places to visit in the South. We have some amazing memories from our summers there, long days of sun and sea with friends and family, finishing off with a BBQ at the end of it with rosy cheeks and sun-kissed skin, and being able to walk Lexi at the East Head section of the beach all year round makes it perfect for us

When we visited in March last year it was so windy and blustery that we were quite apprehensive about taking photos for this month’s portrait project and whether we would look windswept and it would be a total fail, but the weather was with us(!) there was very little wind but with a little cloud and sun present

We decided to hide in the dunes for our photo and I really love the shots we captured, even though in one of them Lexi was going a bit nuts and is poking me in the stomach! The photo of all four of us looking in the direction of the camera will be one we are going to frame, and I think at the end of the year I may get a photobook with the main photo from each month

We are very lucky to have been given a tripod by one of our good friends and it has made such a difference to setting the photos up. I also happened to find my camera remote at the beginning of the month which has meant I now don’t have to run back from setting the camera up – it’s been a good month for camera  equipment

Health has been better this month, J has been back to her normal self, but it appears the “three-nager” that everyone jokes about has joined the household. On a couple of occasions we have been at our wits end wondering when our lovely girl would be rejoining us. We are desperately hoping this is just a phase which ends soon as we had no issues when she was two and aren’t quite sure where to head next with discipline

We are currently on a week off work, having some more adventures and some quality family time together as we haven’t really had any since September. We returned on Tuesday from York and on Wednesday visited Paultons Park with our newly purchased annual pass. We have a few small trips the next few days but we are really focussing on time together without the madness of full time work

These months really are flying by and I cannot believe we are in the 2nd quarter of 2016 as of Friday! April has more quality family time planned, I think we will plan a couple of trips to local areas and attractions but nothing too extravagant after a busy March and a few busy summer months ahead

I have included our ‘out-take’ from March, the hubster looking at the camera, J playing with the remote and Lexi looking on wondering where her ball is and who will throw it next. I really enjoy taking the family photo, but the out-takes make me laugh so much that I have to include them as I know I’ll look back on them fondly in years to come.

The Me and Mine Project

Me and Mine {February 2016}

February has been one of those months where it just whizzed by but at times it felt like time itself had stopped. J spent most of the month feeling off colour and coughing a lot at night and we have had to slow down and let her rest, especially on the weekends which is very unlike us

It’s not been all bad because we have managed to move her into the second biggest room, the back room (previously known as the junk room) and we’ve had a really big clear out and generally decluttered upstairs. This was our most unloved part of the house as we only use it as a dressing / sleeping / bathing area, but I’m more inclined to spend time up there now and J loves her new ‘big girls bedroom’. Remarkably it’s stayed tidy too!

Around mid month, after a couple of weeks of taking it easy J was starting to play up as she isn’t one for sitting still, so we decided to go out for a family walk to St Catherine’s Hill in Winchester, with the plan to take some photos at the top of the hill

The photos make me laugh just looking at them, the hubster had stood for ages waiting for me to set it up and J was desperate to use my camera and sat on the floor also waiting for me, getting slightly frustrated as I wouldn’t let her use it until I had finished the photos. My knees were muddy from setting up my camera on the damp grass (must invest in a tripod, the gorilla-pod just isn’t cutting it at the moment) and the dog went on a mad one racing around the field (after I didn’t actually notice her in the first photo or the one where she photobombed us). It was a typical attempt of trying and failing but making some funny memories along the way

Me and Mine {January 2016}

The past year I have spent a lot of time reading other blogs and looking at various link ups. I’ve always really admired the Me and Mine linky which is run by Lucy at Dear Beautiful as it encourages a family photo. I’m a little bit ashamed to say that I’m in very few photos with J and this year it’s one of the things I’d like to improve

Taking photos is definitely a passion, and although it lapsed throughout 2015, the start of 2016 has seen me get back into taking photos of the people and things I love most, my family, my dog and the great outdoors. I see my family as perfection (most people do don’t they?) and I like to photograph this and hide my imperfections behind a lens

This year I am going to overcome my fear of my imperfection and be in more family shots, so here I am for my first ever Me and Mine for January 2016. A family portrait every month and the hope I will be able to look back with fond memories of the month that passed

January has seen us head out for lots of winter walks and recapture the magic of getting out with the family and enjoying the great outdoors. I love getting all wrapped up in scarves, hats and gloves, feeling nice and toasty on the inside but with a chilly rosy nose that would rival Rudolf’s on the outside, and just getting out there and enjoying the fresh air
