Snow Days are the Best Days

Over the past few years much of the country has had snow at some point, whereas there seems to be a conspiracy for where we live, as we have been missed…until this week! This week, the south saw the first snow in 5 years – schools closed, my daughter woke me with eager anticipation to see snow for the first time in her memory, and so it began! Thursday started with a light dusting of snow all around, so off I went to work as I was in the midst of a busy week and the hubster stayed home on daddy daughter duty

In the afternoon a message circulated to site to state that the snow was getting heavier and the site was closing – the same message to us as many other companies were doing in the area. As you can imagine, the roads became incredibly busy and traffic was backed up to our site, and so I set off on foot for home some 6ish miles away

Reaching some fields I stopped and listened, there wasn’t a sound to be heard aside from some birds tweeting. It’s amazing just how infrequent this happens, and so I stood for a few minutes listening to the soundtrack of birds and emptiness before meeting up with the hubster and J for some fun in the snow

J had been out in the snow for quite some time, and so had that gorgeous red glow on her cheeks and nose, but also had the mood of an overtired and hungry child to accompany it. We played for a bit, took some family photos (March has been completed!) and then decided to set off home again with her newly purchased (and broken) sledge

Friday was just as good – I had a snow day and the hubster worked from home, so it was my turn to take J out and play with her. Olaf was built and hills were slid on, before we came inside for a bit to thaw out. J had caught the snow bug, and so ran outside in the back garden with Lexi, who instantly turns into a puppy in the snow and played for ages with J

Snow’s a funny old thing – I wanted it for so long that I was envious of everyone else, and when we had it I loved it for a day or two,  but because the south just isn’t equipped to cope with it I wanted it to be gone after the second day, feeling trapped in my own surroundings and not free to head out. Thankfully the skies agreed with me, and so on Saturday it started to clear

It has made the hubster and I talk about a winter holiday at some point, as J adored sledging, and we think she’s about the right age for it – not that we will be foregoing a summer holiday though – we all need our sunny weather!

The Ordinary Moments

A Month of Adventures {January 2018}

January you have been long and full of grey skies, but you’ve also flown by with new starts, new routines and lots of change. At times it felt like the days would never end, and at times we wished away the grey skies, only to be rewarded with more grey skies, but we often wanted for the days to slow down so that we could fully enjoy time together

It was a month which was full of family time, with lunches out, trips to the cinema and swimming. We celebrated Duffy the bear’s birthday one lunch out, singing proudly in the restaurant as J fed him, and had the biggest and most lovely cakes I’ve seen when out with friends for lunch at the end of the month

We’re not fair weather walkers, but the weather has just been so bad and so windy that we’ve naturally found ourselves favouring indoor fun instead. I’m someone who usually adores Winter, with it being my second favourite season, but this year has to be the wettest and most miserable Winter we’ve had for a long time. That said, the evenings are getting lighter again, and we’ve had some nice long dog walks after school and work

If there was a word that could underpin January for us it would be change. I started at my new company and spent much of the month adjusting to learning about another organisation and getting used to full time hours again, and the hubster spent much of the month getting used to a change in family routines and school drop offs. J started the month at a new childminder after not really settling at after school club, and she also had a month of new activities, starting tennis lessons, restarting swimming lessons, and finally joining Rainbows. We were worried that she would be exhausted, but she pleaded with us, and so we’ve decided to try it all for a term and see how she gets on

And so here is January in fewer photos that normal. I’ll get the camera out more in February for sure

Linking with KA and Laura for My Family Adventures for the second year running

Exploring Trentham Gardens in Winter

Whenever we go ‘up north’ to visit our friend we always try to go to Trentham Gardens in Stoke on Trent. It’s peaceful, tranquil and beautiful – just what we need in amongst our busy lives

Me and Mine {November 2017}

A few days late for our Me and Mine post for November, and for good reason – the hubster and J’s birthdays. I think this should be the last time I mention it, but every birthday is such a big milestone and so bittersweet that I can’t help but not focus on them

A Month of Adventures {November 2017}

I have joined in every month with KA (and now Laura) for My Family Adventures and it’s been one of my favourite link ups but I can’t quite believe we’re about to head into the last month of this year. November has been gorgeous and really has treated us to some beautiful scenes, but we’re fast approaching some special dates in the calendar which outshine the rest of the month, and that’s the hubster and J’s birthdays

A Month of Adventures {October 2017}

And so my favourite month in the calendar is nearly up and we’re hurtling into our busiest 2 months of my year. The months where we already have something planned for every weekend and then a much needed 10 days off together as a family over the Christmas break. Before I get ahead of myself, lets focus on the month that was October

A Month of Adventures {September 2017} {Blogtober #4}

We’ve now completed three quarters of 2017 and into my favourite season. It seems that everyone loves autumn too and I totally understand why although I am unsure how we’ve managed to complete 3 quarters of 2017 already

My Family Adventures {March 2017}

As you’re reading this I’m in Devon with my little crew for a much needed family holiday as March has just been a whirlwind of busy days and weekends. It doesn’t mean that we haven’t stopped and caught our breath, in fact there has been a lot of quality family time, but with really hectic work schedules, weekend and evening working, a weekend away for me and back to back birthday parties it’s just been one of those months  when we knew a holiday would be welcomed at the end of it

My Family Adventures {February 2017}

And just like that we are at the end of February. Time needs to slow down for me as J starts school in  September and whilst she is ready for it I’m not sure I am just yet. Our family is complete but I was looking back at her baby photos this week (as you do) and wondered where on earth those 4 years have gone

This is my second month of linking with #MyFamilyAdventures hosted by KA on the Life as Our Little Family blog and Instagram community. I loved linking up in January and having a round up of my favourite photos from the month, they may be the ones that make their way into the end of year photo album…

My Family Adventures {January 2017}

I honestly cannot believe we are nearly at the end of the 1st month of 2017. Whilst illness has dominated most of January we did manage to venture out and explore some of the south. One of my favourite Instagram communities is #MyFamilyAdventures, and when I was told there would be a monthly round up linky on the blog I knew I just had to join in

Right at the very beginning of January we visited Deerleap in the New Forest for a walk. J took her bike for the first time since learning how to ride without stabilisers and decided to ride through every puddle she could find, which made for some really funny moments (especially when she got stuck!)
