30 Before I’m 30 – Week 7 Weigh In

I weigh every Tuesday evening and will be posting an update on my blog each week before the weekend is upon us. Here’s my “challenge”

Exercise wise, we have been out with the dog, played on the trampoline, swimming once and had 3 gym visits. The runs are coming along nicely and this week for the first time I managed 16 of 30 minutes running whilst still following the Couchto5K app, the sessions are getting longer for the runs but I’m enjoying them nonetheless

I even (!) went for a run at the gym on Tuesday before weigh in. I really didn’t feel like it but I knew I’d let myself down if not. I completed it comfortably and it honestly took everything in me to not fist punch the air after completing my final run before entering my cool down walk

The downside to my run on Tuesday was that after I had stopped my impulse and was halfway through my cool down walk I dropped my iPhone on the treadmill, and consequently the floor (oops! – It was fine thankfully) My leg however pulled as I leaned awkwardly to get it, I was in a lot of discomfort on Sunday so resting until Saturday run wise. What a plonker! Anyone who knows me knows that only I could injure myself after the run

The big news this week is that I have managed to convince the hubster to join SW with me. We will weigh each Tuesday and one will stay for the earlier meeting and one for the later meeting due to childcare. The decision was made on Sunday night and he’s followed the plan since then

I am really quite excited about this as historically it’s worked when we’ve both been in it together. He’s also really good at keeping me on track and he will be cooking dinner for us on a Thursday night (a SW friendly meal) which will also keep us both on track, as I’m usually knackered on a Thursday after my previous night at work
I have 5 more weigh-ins before my 30th so here we go for this week…

30 Before I’m 30 – Week 4 Weigh In

I weigh every Tuesday evening and will be posting an update on my blog each week before the weekend is upon us. My weight loss challenge is here

I can’t believe I have been running this post for 4 weeks already…it is going soooo fast!

It’s been a week of highs and lows. The highs are that we went swimming on Saturday, to the zoo on Sunday (2.5 miles walked). Food has been pretty consistent although exercise in general and my gymming needs a right royal kick up the bum right now. I am getting back on the gym wagon this weekend!

My stomach also really played me up this week. If it continues I’m going to go to the doctors but as it’s just come from nowhere I’ll be kick-starting my food diary (which I’m sure the doctor will ask for), but it will also assist with food intake and syns

Food has been good, I didn’t get to make or eat homity pie, but I made a SW friendly cottage pie for the hubster and J (I cannot stand mash) and for me I made a vegetable and chorizo risotto with green beans, yum! I ‘synned’ the chorizo and the rest was syn free

I have 7 more weigh-ins before my 30th so here we go for this week…

30 before I’m 30 – Week 3 Weigh In

I weigh every Tuesday evening and will be posting an update on my blog each week before the weekend is upon us. My story behind it is here

If I’m to be completely honest, it’s been a bit of a low week

I am an emotional eater and after a rough start to Friday (thank you to my car for not unlocking!) and the day itself so I came home and comfort ate and it continued through to Saturday night. To add to this, my leg has somehow become injured and running has been on hold because I haven’t been able to walk without pain, let alone run

All that aside, I ate well Wednesday through to Friday day and Sunday through to Tuesday

I probably shouldn’t have weighed on Tuesday this week as I really wasn’t very well and my stomach expanded throughout the day. I kid you not by early afternoon I looked 7-8 months pregnant and I even had to unbutton my trousers (normal service has resumed and my trousers are back to feeling a bit baggy). I have no idea what went on but I’d be glad to not experience that again!

With 8 more weigh ins before my 30th it’s starting to scare me how close it is! Game on!

This week’s information:

Loss this week: +0.5lbs

Overall loss to date: 5.5lbs

Highs of the previous week: Having a rough Friday night and Saturday (food wise) and getting straight back on it for Sunday and the week ahead. Seeing one of my best and oldest friends on Saturday for the first time in a few months was a perk, it’s amazing how you can go without seeing someone for ages and pick up just where you left off. We had some girly time and a stop in Costa and J was amazingly well behaved

Lows of the previous week: Attending some work related training on Wednesday on the use of a set of health check scales and the figures not being very positive. In fact it really upset me

The scales were a RAG system (Red = bad, Amber = could do better, Green = good). My stats are below

– Female body fat 39.9% (anything over 39% is red)
– Female total body water 42.9% (anything under 45% is red)
– Visceral (fat around the organs) fat rating 7 (this was green, anything over 13 was amber and over 18 was red)
– BMI 30.9 (anything over 30 is obese and red)
– Blood pressure systolic 130 (this was green, anything over 140 is amber and 160 red)
– Blood pressure diastolic 80 (this was green, anything over 90 is amber and 100 red)
– My metabolic age is 44 (my current age as you know is 29)

So what does this mean? My blood pressure is normal which is good news, and my organs aren’t covered by fat, which is also good

The negative? Well, I am obese in medical terms, I never thought or saw myself as obese, only a little chubby with a spare tyre around the middle, so this really knocked me for six

The level of fat and water which makes up my body percentage really upset me. Whilst I don’t have fat around my organs it means its spread all over my body. The water aspect means I need to drink more, in effect my body is dehydrated and to top it off, the metabolic age really upset me. In effect my body is 15 years older than it currently is

Whilst this was disappointing, all in all it’s made me realise that I’m not only losing weight and getting fit for J or my birthday, I’m doing it to look after my body and health and ensuring I live a long and healthy life. I’ll be using the scales again in a month when we run sessions on them and my aim is for the body fat, body water and BMI to be in the amber (green would be amazing but far too adventurous I feel!)

Food news: I am going to try a homity pie over the next week. It’s a slimming world meal made up of low fat cheese and potatoes, perfect for a comfort meal. I think I’ll be adding rashers of bacon in as well

Challenges for the week ahead: The bank holiday weekend is always difficult as you leave your routine. I will take healthy snacks and picnics wherever possible

Here’s to another week (completely on track with a loss!) ahead

I saw this on the Facebook page for the Slimming World group so have no idea of the origin, however i thought this was quite appropriate and may inspire others too

30 Before I’m 30 – Week 2 Weigh In

I weigh every Tuesday evening and will be posting an update on my blog each week before the weekend is upon us. You can read about my weight loss challenge here

I had a good week, not the best I’ve had before, and the result on the scales reflected this. I now have 9 more weigh ins and am well into week 2 of my couch to 5K programme. I completed the longer runs on the app on Monday which I really enjoyed doing

This week’s information:

Loss this week: 1lb

Overall loss to date: 6lbs

Highs of the previous week: Knowing that I would struggle getting up on Monday morning following a busy weekend and utilising the time whilst my pasta was cooking for dinner by preparing my breakfast, a nice healthy salad, cous cous and vegetable crudités for the following day. I have also been able to comfortably do my trousers up for the first time in a month

Lows of the previous week: I exceeded my syns on Sunday night by having a Flake chocolate bar. Sometimes you have to fulfil the need, though it meant overall my weekly total of syns up to Sunday had blown the weekly allowance by 30. I cut right down on my syns for Monday and Tuesday before weigh in to try and even it out

Food news: I managed to convince the hubster to have steak on Friday night for dinner – a big thing in our house! He didn’t feel it would be something he would have regularly, but I’m chuffed I had steak…at home! I have also realised that I really need to purchase some food containers for transportation and picnics (I packed a rice dish for a picnic on Sunday in a cooking pan which I then wrapped up in clingfilm because I didn’t have any containers for it, much to the hubsters amusement!)

Challenges for the week ahead: The week ahead doesn’t pose too many issues and we have a relatively quiet weekend ahead however I need to keep motivated from a food perspective. My sweet tooth is kicking in at the moment and to ensure I don’t become bored of salads and lunches I need to identify some great foods to eat at work which will keep my interest

I would like another 1-2lbs loss this week so here we go again…

30 before I’m 30 – Week 1 Weigh In

I weigh every Tuesday evening and will be posting an update on my blog each week before the weekend is upon us. You can read about my weight loss challenge here

I had a really good week and was pleased with the result on the scales. With 10 more weigh ins before my 30th I really am feeling determined to get as far as I can. Tomorrow night I will be completing my third run and finishing week 1 on the Couch to 5K app. It’s really keeping me energised and helping me to stay focused

I’m also signed up to Pretty Muddy with a few girls from work. It’s a new alternative to Race 4 Life and is a 5K obstacle course. The date is 18th July and I’m well… petrified! If they have monkey bars I will end up in a heap on the floor as I have no upper body strength whatsoever but it’s all for a good cause and even more of an excuse to lose the weight and get fit!

This week’s information:

Loss this week: 3lbs

Overall loss to date: 5lbs

Highs of the previous week: Sitting down on Sunday night with a bowl of grapes and melon whilst the hubster ate chocolate. One of my strong and proud moments

Lows of the previous week: Being round a friend’s house for a SW friendly dinner (thanks RH!). Following dinner watching the group (hubster included) munching through Lindt eggs and Cadbury’s Cream Eggs from their Easter haul (I had 4 mini ones for 6 syns whilst the group demolished the rest). I was reserved, but it didn’t stop me wanting more and being a bit grumbly on the inside – it’s for the greater cause!

Food news: I made a quick dinner on Monday night using the leftover lamb from our Sunday roast. I used a Jamie Oliver recipe; BBQ Lamb Burritos from the ‘Save With Jamie’ cookbook and the hubster and J inhaled it. I made an adaptation of it for me (minus the wrap for me and plain lamb as I had no syns left)

A quick breakdown of my dinner:

  • Chopped lamb (which had garlic and rosemary flavours from the day before
  • Chopped onion, peppers and tomatoes all lightly fried
  • Basmati rice with frozen spinach stirred in
  • I then decided that to save the meal from being too dry I would add a homemade condiment made up of fat free natural yogurt with some finely chopped mint from the garden

It was very nice and I would certainly recommend the rice as a boost to getting one of your 5 a day

Challenges for the week ahead: We are going out for the day to a theme park on Sunday with my mother-in-law. I am planning on taking a picnic and flask with me so I can have some control over what is packed and not and maybe some low syn goodies too

Here’s to another week (and hopefully another loss!) ahead

30 before I’m 30

Okay I admit it (reluctantly I must add) that I am 30 in less than 11 weeks – eek! Somehow my twenties have flown by, and as a teenager I remember reading magazines and thinking 30, whoa that’s old. And now I’m knocking on the door of it

I have achieved and gained a lot in the last 10 years, a beautiful daughter, loving husband and a loyal Labrador, met some fantastic life friends and qualified in my profession. However there is a significant gain that occurred in the last 10 years that I just cannot bear to have with me in my 30’s……and that’s weight

My ‘mum tum’ has lasted for 2 and a bit years and I can’t really use the excuse of being a new mum any more. I am a little over 2 and a half stone heavier than when I married the hubster in 2011 and by the time we reach our fifth wedding anniversary I would like to be on top of my health
